Although Olivenhain is "country", the Pacific Ocean is only a ten-minute drive. The famous Del Mar Fairgrounds/ racetrack, major shopping malls and grocery stores are only minutes away.
Olivenhain offers a unique rural setting filled with ranches, horses, and expensive homes nestled in the hillside. The area's agricultural industry yielded to a residential community in the 1950s. The open fields and hillsides were subdivided into spacious lots that today hold large custom homes often with horse facilities.
It wasn't until the early 70's that many of the main roads were paved with asphalt. Beautiful estate developments like the Double L Ranch, Country Rose, Wild Flower, Windsor Rose and Knightsbridge are surrounded by perfectly placed custom homes.
Although Olivenhain is rural in its setting, the Pacific Ocean, major shopping malls and grocery stores are only minutes away. The last 25 years has seen Olivenhain grow from a sleepy little town, where the community gathered at the meeting hall for picnics and at H&H Feed store for horse shows, to one of the most desirable living locations in San Diego County. Many homes have fruit orchards of citrus trees and gardening is a popular pastime.
